Twenty New Drop-Off Boxes to Facilitate the Reuse of Textiles in Gatineau

Gatineau residents now have new drop-off locations to give their clothes and textiles a second life. Twenty new donation bins were recently installed throughout the city, in addition to the five bins set up in 2025 and five others belonging to a partner organization.

This initiative aims to facilitate the reuse of textiles by providing more locations where residents can drop off items they no longer need. The collected clothing and textiles are sorted before being redistributed within the community.

Residents can drop off clothing, shoes tied in pairs, accessories such as bags, belts, and hats, as well as household linens, including sheets, towels, and blankets. Items with holes, damage, or signs of wear are also accepted, provided they are clean and dry.

Donations must be placed in sealed plastic bags small enough to fit inside the drop-off box. The City reminds residents that bags must not be left outside the facilities, as they may become unsanitary and be discarded.

A map showing the locations of donation boxes and other reuse options is available on the City of Gatineau website and in the DTRITUS app. The purchase of the 20 new bins is fully funded by Tricentris’ “Investing in Sustainable Communities” program. The addition of these drop-off locations is intended to make reuse solutions more accessible to residents and reduce the amount of textiles thrown away in the trash.
