Liberals sweep Outaouais

Lily Ryan

Sasha Cannon won the confidence of Hull riding voters with a Liberal lead over even the incumbent Suzanne Tremblay (CAQ).

David Logue took the Gatineau ticket from the CAQ with an early lead. Pontiac sends Liberal André Fortin to Quebec for a fourth time. The race in Chapleau was tight, with Michel Langevin (PLQ), Mathieu Lévesque (CAQ incumbent and a minister) and Meixia Maltais (PQ). At press time, the race could not be called. Former newspaper co-publisher Isabelle Millette (PQ) was ahead of her opponents at press time but it was not a strong enough lead to call.

The governing party for Quebec could not be reliably called. Vote counting for Pontiac was sufficient to decidedly give Fortin the seat, although the final vote tallies will be confirmed after the newspaper is printed. Please see website for details. Whether Quebecers sent a majority Parti Québecois (PQ) government to office is also not known at press time. The question of whether the PQ has a strong or weak minority government, is unknown, and speculation about the number of seats won by other governments is unreliable.
