An art exhibition took place over the weekend of April 25 and 26 at Tétreau Community Centre, hosted by Arts visuel de Gatineau. The annual event is free and always takes place on the last weekend of April.
There were 37 artists at the exhibition, all of whom are members of Arts visuel de Gatineau, showcasing various art forms, including painting, oil painting, wood carving, 3D painting, and more. They designed the event layout to showcase art and ensured that all types of art had their spotlight.
Catherine Garcia Cournoyer, the president of Arts visuel de Gatineau, stated, “We wanted everyone to be able to meet the artists of the community, and to see their different art.
The Arts Visuel de Gatineau presents an annual Artist of the Year award and this year the winner was Doris Genest. Her 3D paintings on display at the exhibition drew a crowd to her kiosk.
“It feels so nice to be recognized among my peers. We are all artists and emotions are a big part of the process.” Genest said. She added that her 3D paintings started as a joke between her and her husband Faiz Griplas, and once she began, she couldn't stop.
The exhibition changes from year to year, with some new artists coming in. Cournoyer mentioned that it's all about giving people a chance to showcase new art forms.
Artist Pierre Gagnon told the Bulletin that the colours of his art are what make him stand out most. “I like to express colours because they bring joy. I like to express fantasies,” he said.
Gagnon mentioned that this was his fifth art exhibition, an event that brings people together and gives them a chance to discover local talent in Outaouais. “It shows the public all the beautiful people who have talent in the region,” he said.
