Action Gatineau, a prominent political party in the city, is gearing up for its leadership race as well as the upcoming mayoral election, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and citizen involvement. The party is currently in the process of selecting a new leader, with the nomination period open until April 8. Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, former party leader and city councillor, has publicly expressed her interest in running for the leadership position, highlighting her commitment to working closely with the municipal council and Gatineau residents.
Marquis-Bissonnette's approach prioritises collective decision-making, involving residents in municipal consultation and decision processes. She believes in the power of teamwork to address evolving challenges in municipal politics and aims to bring positive leadership to the mayor's office. Her focus includes enhancing the quality of life for citizens and leveraging her extensive experience on the city council to address current issues while establishing a vision for the future. Specifically, she intends to strengthen the social and economic fabric of different city sectors, including Aylmer, where she has previously resided.
Action Gatineau's expectations for the mayoral race centre on addressing critical issues such as housing, mobility, and access to quality recreational, sports, and municipal infrastructure for all residents. The party has been active in advocating for social housing, securing funding for a sports dome in the west of the city, and proposing solutions for road asphalt, sidewalk snow removal, and speed reduction measures for safety.
Beyond the election, Action Gatineau is committed to promoting citizen consultation in municipal decision-making. Elected officials from the party regularly engage with residents to understand their concerns and empower them to participate in local political debates. Initiatives such as consultations on public safety in the Plateau sector and the future of Robert-Stewart Road demonstrate the party's dedication to documenting and advocating for the needs of citizens at the council level.
As the leadership race and mayoral election approach, Action Gatineau's focus on collaboration and citizen engagement reflects its commitment to fostering a responsive and inclusive political environment in Gatineau.
